The Cotswolds is an Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty (AONB), packed with chocolate box villages, bustling market towns and bucolic countryside.
If you're planning on staying in a Cotswold holiday cottage here's some of the villages you really need to visit!
One of the most famous Cotswolds villages, Bibury is on the list of places to see in the Cotswolds you really shouldn't miss.
The village can be found a short drive from Cirencester in Gloucestershire and is an extremely popular destination for visitors from all over the world.
If you think you've never heard of Bibury, you've probably seen a photo of Arlington Row, built in 1380 as a monastic wool store, which has to be one of the most photographed scenes in the Cotswolds.
The area that most people think of as Bibury is actually made up of Bibury and Arlington.
As well as Arlington Row, you can visit the Bibury Trout Farm where you can feed the fish and even catch your lunch! But for those who would prefer someone else do the cooking, you can eat at The Swan and The Catherine Wheel pub.
Castle Combe is a small village in the Wiltshire Cotswolds. It's well known for its picturesque scenery, especially the small bridge over the Bybrook river which is the backdrop for many selfies and social media posts!
This small Cotswold village is also known for the Castle Combe Circuit which was originally built in 1950 for racing motorcycles and cars. It's now used as a race track and driving experience circuit for vintage vehicles, cars and motorcycles.
The Worcestershire village of Broadway is located in north of the Cotswolds, and area well-known for its honey-coloured Cotswold stone buildings.
A charming village, Broadway has a wonderful High Street, flancked by shops, hotels and restaurants. Just over a mile from the village, via the Cotswold Way, is Broadway Tower - an iconic folly on Broadway Hill.
Broadway Tower was completed in 1798, the brainchild of the great 18th century landscape designer, Lancelot "Capability" Brown.
Bourton-on-the-Water is a beautiful village in the Cotswold region of Gloucestershire, well known for the low bridges that span the River Windrush as it flows through the village.
Bourton is a great place to visit with your family and friends for a day trip. The village has many interesting things to see and do including:
Lower Slaughter is a Cotswold village in Gloucestershire, just a hop, skip and jump from Bourton on the Water (many people park in Bourton and walk over to Lower Slaughter as parking in the village is limited).
Lower Slaughter has some historic buildings including the The Parish Church of St. Mary church which was almost completely rebuilt in 1867 by the lord of the manor, Charles Shapland Whitmore, and a 19th-century water mill.
Lower Slaughter is a popular destination for tourists, who like to amble alongside the River Eye which slowly flows through the village and also walk up to neighbouring Upper Slaughter which is home to Lords of the Manor hotel.
