Coniston, Cumbria - Sleeps 4

Accommodation details

Located by the shores of Coniston Water, this former 18th-century stable has been converted into a thoroughly modern space. It's the perfect tranquil retreat for couples or a small family wanting both relaxation and outdoor adventure. A stable door extends a warm welcome to this charming property. In the open-plan living area, creamy tones, ambient lighting, and cheerful artwork on the walls create a soothing atmosphere.

Two comfortable sofas in the lounge invite you to sit and chat about your day's adventures while on chilly nights, you can light the wood burner and curl up with a film on the TV. A stylish dining table that seats four people overlooks the lounge while the contemporary kitchen is kitted out with every utensil you need to create delicious meals.

At the end of the day, retire upstairs where you'll find a serene double bedroom and twin bedroom. Both are light and airy and offer up glorious views of the lake and courtyard. Also on this floor is a pristine bathroom where you can indulge in a long soak or refreshing shower. Back on the ground level, there is more to discover outside.

The walled courtyard and the extensive garden are shared with four other holiday homes but there is plenty of space for everyone. Enjoy the sound of birdsong in the surrounding trees or pack a picnic and stroll to the estate's private lakeshore area where you can spend the day paddling, swimming, or simply relaxing with those awe-inspiring views.

Bring your sailing boat to Coniston Water (there are private jetties) or jump on the famous Gondola and discover the area from a Victorian steam yacht. Water sports enthusiasts can also paddleboard and kayak. Coniston village (1.5 miles) is dotted with excellent restaurants, cafes, and pubs, and lies at the foot of The Old Man of Coniston.

The adventurist can scale the heights of this legendary mountain range on foot or mountain bike. For a more leisurely day out, head to Hill Top (5 miles) and discover the house and garden where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her famous books.
