For a more challenging route, take to higher ground with a hike up to Scafell and Scafell Pike, 10 miles away.

Rest your legs for a while with a ride on the famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, also known as La'al Ratty, which offers its passengers some spectacular scenery along the way. For history, head to Muncaster Castle, 6 miles away, or to blow away the cobwebs take to Drigg Beach, 7 miles away. Afterwards, hearty meals can be enjoyed at the dog-friendly pub in the village.
