Rosthwaite, Cumbria - Sleeps 2
Accommodation details
A cosy Lakeland stone cottage in the pretty village of Rosthwaite is the perfect romantic getaway for a couple who loves the great outdoors. Overlooking the lovely Borrowdale Valley and surrounded by magnificent fells, this tranquil property has wonderful countryside walks on the doorstep and is less than 4 miles from beautiful Derwentwater. Enter the cottage via a small hall, with storage for muddy boots and parkas.
It leads into the well-designed, light and airy open-plan lounge/kitchen diner. This delightful room has beams on the vaulted ceiling and above the windows, and comfortable seating in front of the wood burner-effect electric fire where you can curl up and unwind after a day of adventure. There’s a compact kitchen and a pretty dining table for two.
A step down into the hall brings you to an inviting, king-size bedroom, with a shower room opposite. Outside is a garden with seating, shared with neighbouring holiday properties, and boasting lovely views. Look out for lambs in the springtime. Whether you fancy a quiet night in or dining out, you are well served in Rosthwaite, with a tearoom within 200 metres, as well as a restaurant and farm shop.
Take the packhorse trail up the fell to the National Trust’s picture-postcard hamlet of Watendlath and have a reviving drink in the Trust tearoom, while you admire the magnificent view. Explore Derwentwater by boat; take the 50-minute round trip or hop on or off at eight jetties en route to explore more lovely walks to landmarks such as Lodore Falls.
Keswick (6.5 miles) is a lively market town where you can take in a show at Theatre by the Lake or visit the famous Pencil Museum.
