Crickhowell (1m SW), Wales - Sleeps 4

Accommodation details

Extraordinary views of the Black Mountains and amazing dark skies await at this historic barn conversion, which is now a welcoming and stylish holiday home. In a tranquil location on a hillside close to Crickhowell, it’s a relaxing retreat ideal for a couple or small family. Reach this beautifully converted barn via a single-track road and appreciate its picturesque exterior.

Inside it’s furnished with natural materials and an understated colour scheme. The kitchen has everything you’ll need to whip up irresistible holiday meals, and you can eat at the dining table in the open-plan living space, two steps up. Light the wood burner and settle down with a book, a game or the TV.

There’s also a shower room on this level. At bedtime, head up the spiral staircase to reach the twin bedroom on the first floor, with an en-suite shower room, and then, on the second floor, the king-size room, which has low, sloping ceilings, and fabulous views through its skylights. The views are amazing from the patio, too, which is sheltered by an oak pergola, making it a great place for drinks and BBQs.

Light the fire pit and enjoy the sound of nature all around - from here you can see not only the adjacent fields (with lambs in the spring) but, more widely, over 200 square km of the national park. Explore the open-access area behind the barn, too, where you can cycle, ride a horse and watch the wildlife. The barn is just over 2 miles from the market town of Crickhowell, where you’ll find a choice of pubs, restaurants and shops.

You can access numerous walking and cycling trails nearby, while for a day trip the Big Pit National Coal Museum, Blaenavon Iron Works, Abergavenny Castle and Brecon town are all within 15 miles.
