From here, step into the grand dining room with its open fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows, and enjoy a meal at the elegant table seating 8 people. For more casual dining, head to the country kitchen and prepare delicious meals on the Aga then feast at the sociable table with a gorgeous window looking out onto the lake.

Staircases sweep from the entrance hallway and kitchen to the first floor where there are four bedrooms. There are three king-size bedrooms and one twin bedroom. Outside, the garden’s natural beauty is a delight. Sit in a shady spot on the terrace and while away the hours soaking up the majestic lake and mountain views. Alternatively, pack a picnic and stroll to the estate’s private lakeshore area (shared with other properties on the estate) and enjoy a refreshing dip in the water. Water sports enthusiasts can try their hand at paddleboarding, kayaking, and sailing on Coniston Water while walkers and cyclists can discover many trails on The Old Man of Coniston (1.5 miles), a legendary fell.

If you fancy a drink and bite-to-eat head to Coniston village, located at the foot of the mountain, where you’ll find excellent pubs and restaurants. Further afield, Grizedale Forest (8 miles) is a vast woodland with endless trails, park sculptures, and thrilling forest zip wires.
