Cartmel Fell, Cumbria - Sleeps 8
Accommodation details
Stay in splendour at this magnificent barn at Thorphinsty near Cartmel Fell in the Lake District. Sleeping eight guests, the impressive, four-bedroom property presents a wealth of striking barn features and makes a superb base for groups of friends and family. Set in beautiful 9-acre grounds, with far-reaching views, the luxurious retreat is just 6 miles from the shores of Lake Windermere. Let yourselves in via the boot room to emerge in the cathedral-like lounge/kitchen/diner, with its high vaulted ceiling, flagstone floor and exquisite beams.
Light the wood burner then unwind together in its cosy glow. Prepare hearty feasts in the gorgeous, country-style kitchen, with its central island and breakfast bar. Dine together in grandeur at the table and sink back into the soft seating to chat or play a game. Beyond the lounge is a garden room where you can relax with a good book or simply take in the views.
Follow the steps down to a snug, where you can light a second wood burner and enjoy movie nights in front of the TV. A king-size bedroom, with an en-suite bathroom, is also at this level. Climb the steps up from the main lounge to find a super-king-size bedroom with zip-and-link beds that can also be made up as singles by prior discussion.
The family bathroom and a bunk bedroom are also here. Ascend winding stone stairs to a king-size bedroom, which overlooks the open-plan living space and has an en-suite shower room. Explore the acres of grounds to your heart's content. Unwind in or beside the shepherd's hut next to the wildlife ponds over a BBQ or drink. Plan an afternoon out to the National Trust's Fell Foot (6 miles) where you can walk, paddle and picnic.
Take a cruise out on Lake Windermere from Lakeside (7 miles).
