A handful of outdoor games help liven things up and you can talk to the owners and take canoes out on the River Stour or try your hand at fishing.

After adventurous days, rest your heads in one of two charming bedrooms before rising and shining and freshening up in the family shower room. The pretty, Georgian town of Blandford Forum is 3 miles from your door and has a lovely range of local shops including a butcher’s, a baker’s and a brewery, great for stocking the kitchen with fresh goods.

Stay even closer to home and wander the network of paths and trails which wind their way around the countryside and the River Stour, perfect if you need somewhere to take the dogs for a tail wag and a stick chase. 24 miles south, the village of Corfe Castle with its National trust owned remains is a great starting destination for a day out.

From here, the Purbeck Ridge Trail follows a 9-mile route to Swanage past Old Harry Rocks.
