Abergavenny (2mlsNE), Monmouthshire - Sleeps 4

Accommodation details

Wonderful mountain views greet you on arrival at this thoughtfully restored former schoolhouse on the edge of the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park. This characterful property sleeps four guests and is just 2 miles from the vibrant market town of Abergavenny, renowned for its annual food festival, independent shops and eateries.

You'll discover scenic outings in plenty from this rural base, whether a walk through the lovely meadows below Abergavenny Castle or mountain hikes across the Beacons. The cottage is comfortably furnished, with a relaxed, country vibe and has a generous hallway housing a shower room, plus space for walking boots.

The roomy lounge/diner offers cosy sofas, plus a dining table for leisurely meals, with a separate, streamlined kitchen, well, equipped to meet all your culinary needs. Upstairs, drift off in two sumptuous bedrooms: a king and a double, both with wonderful views. A super bathroom with a free-standing bath completes the layout.

Outside, a suntrap patio has seating where you can look across unspoiled countryside towards the mountains. Visit Abergavenny's magnificent Victorian Market Hall, to browse stalls selling locally produced food and drink, second-hand books, vintage jewellery and more. Climb the 300-metre landmark Sugar Loaf Mountain (2 miles) or drop into the vineyard on its lower slopes to sample award-winning Welsh wines.

Take a peaceful boat trip along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal at Goytre Wharf (6 miles), where you can also hire a canoe or bike to ride the towpath. The Brecon Beacons are a designated Dark Sky Reserve, so switch off the lights on cloudless nights and see the stars shine.
