Visit charming Appledore (3.5 miles), with its excellent maritime museum and lovely pubs, eateries and galleries. Bideford (4.5 miles) is blessed with superb independent shops, restaurants and arts and crafts boutiques. At low tide, Instow beach (5.5 miles) is blissful for dog walks or sunset pub soirees; from April-October there's a ferry from Appledore.

Kids will love the Big Sheep theme park (2.5 miles). Inside you'll find a light, fresh and vibrant interior, with a jaunty nautical feel.
