The town has a good range of eateries, including old coaching inns and traditional tea rooms.

For local goods and produce, head into the town on market day. On the outskirts of Howden is the tranquil haven of Howden Marsh, where walking trails meander around the lakes and islands. The cathedral city of York is 28 miles away and makes a lovely day trip.
