But on balmy evenings, you'll want to throw some fresh fish on the BBQ and dine al fresco at the garden table.

When the light starts to fade, end the day with a soak in the hot tub, or gather round the fire pit and idle under the stars. Keen cyclists can also pick up the Tarka Trail in Barnstaple (3 miles) while nature lovers can explore the moors at Exmoor National Park (10 miles) with its Exmoor ponies and red deer.
