Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire - Sleeps 4

Accommodation details

The beautiful cottage benefits from spectacular views, thanks to its elevated position on the slopes of Eccles Pike. The property sleeps four guests in two bedrooms, making it ideal for a small family getaway or a couples’ retreat. The area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with a multitude of walking routes nearby to suit everyone.

Pull on your hiking boots and climb to the summit of Eccles Pike (approx. 2 miles) or enjoy a gentle waterside stroll at Combs Reservoir (1.5 miles). Alternatively, spend a relaxing afternoon pottering around the grounds of the National Trust’s Lyme (6 miles). The 18th-century property has been carefully restored to retain many of the characterful original features, such as the wonderful oak beams and exposed stonework.

The owners of this property aim to reduce their carbon footprint by using an original gritstone roof and British sheep's wool insulation, as well as heating provided by biomass and a private water supply. The spacious lounge/diner has a beautiful slate floor and underfloor heating, to create a cosy space to relax in after a day of exploring.

Outside is a gorgeous terrace with magnificent views, as well as a kitchen garden where you can pick your own organic produce. If you’re looking to explore, the route to the top of Eccles Pike is incredibly pretty and takes you along a series of footpaths through the countryside. Once you reach the 370-metre summit, you’ll be rewarded with fabulous views over Combs Reservoir and Shining Tor.

Combs Reservoir is another great spot for peaceful walking, as well as sailing. The shoreline footpath is 2 miles long and takes you through the village of Combs, where you can stop off for a delicious pub lunch. The glorious house at Lyme also makes a lovely day out. There are some truly magical walks through the 1,400-acre estate, passing through formal gardens, moorland, and a deer park.
