Head just 500 metres through the town to Ilfracombe Harbour, where you'll find Damien Hirst's iconic sculpture Verity looking out over the Bristol Channel.

You can also take a wildlife boat trip from the harbour to Lundy Island, where you may spot puffins, seals or even a pod of dolphins. If you don't fancy cooking, there are many cafes and restaurants to choose from, so the family won't go hungry. If it's beautiful sands you're after, nip to the 3-mile long beach at Woolacombe (8 miles).
