Many of the local beaches welcome stick chasers all year round, including the golden sands at Weymouth (11.5 miles), where canines can scatter pawprints at the Pavilion end of the beach before you all return to cosy up by the wood burner. Arrive at this humble abode, throw a log on the wood burner which sits in a traditional inglenook fireplace, and snuggle up on the sofa for a cosy night in or a relaxing afternoon post-adventure.

For a lively night, fill the lounge with music from the Bluetooth speaker and boogie the night away to your favourite songs. Prepared for rustling up picnics and cooking three-course meals, the galley-style kitchen has all the space you need to gather a couple of chefs and cater for hungry guests. Plate up in the bright sunroom, flooded with natural light from the doors which leads down a step to the courtyard.

Perfect for al fresco evenings with sundowner drinks and four-legged stretches, the courtyard is a great spot to while away time at any time of the day. Climb the winding cottage-style stairs to the first floor to rest your head in one of two pretty bedrooms before waking and freshening up in the ground-floor shower room and enjoying breakfast at the breakfast bar.

There is off-road parking for two cars opposite the cottage. Pack up a picnic and enjoy a beach day with all the family at Weymouth Beach (11.5 miles), where you can swim in the sea, chase sticks and have a fun-filled day. Travel a little further away from home and pay one of Dorset’s most iconic beaches a visit, Lulworth Cove, which is 18 miles away.

From the horseshoe-shaped bay you can walk 1.5 miles along the clifftops to the majestic natural arch at Durdle Door.
