The quaint village of Eskdale is a great base from which to explore the western reaches of the Lake District National Park. Enjoy a leisurely stroll into the Japanese Garden in the forest, or embark on a more challenging walk as you take on Harter Fell or even Scafell Pike.

Or, for cyclists, mountain biking and forest trails can be found in the Wasdale and Duddon Valleys, 7 and 11 miles away; meanwhile, roadies will be in their element as they tackle some of England’s steepest roads. Head for the coast with a trip to Drigg beach, 7 miles away, or take in some local history at Muncaster Castle, just 4.5 miles away and a great day out for all ages.
